Preschool-Exploring Practical Life

“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.”

–Maria Montessori

As we delight in this wonderful late summer weather, our Preschool friends are already off to an excellent start. The children are acclimating beautifully and the classroom, as a whole, has a wonderful sense of peace and joy.

Last week in the afternoon, the children listened to The Seashore Book by Charlotte Zolotow and shared with one another their summer beach adventures. Some of the children participated in a salt dough and seashell project. They used their budding fine motor skills as they mixed the ingredients, rolled out the dough with a rolling pin and used a circle shaped cookie cutter. The children decorated their ornaments by carefully pinching tiny beautiful shells and pressing them into the dough. The ornaments were baked and brought home to share with loved ones. One proud child announced, “They look like chocolate chip cookies!”
