Pre-Primary: Gong Hei Fat Choy! A Wish of Prosperity in the Chinese New Year…

We have been studying China for two months in our Cultural Area. We have read stories, made kites and lanterns and colored our own books about China. The Chinese New Year fell on January 28th which gave us the chance to have a small celebration. The children colored and cut out dragon masks which are a sign of luck for the New Year. They laboriously cut vegetables and helped stir a stir fry of noodles and vegetables for snack.

At the end of the morning, we had a feast! The children tried the noodles and vegetables. Many children commented on how much they liked the stir-fry or that it was yummy. One child showed his friends the vegetables in his bowl of stir-fry and said, “I cut that pea and that carrot…” He was not sure if the peppers in his bowl were the ones he had cut or not. A great deal of pride was taken in this delicious snack.
