Preschool: Collaboration

“Wow!” a child exclaimed as a teacher helped him remove his stencil after he carefully sponge painted a bright green on top. Revealed was a lovely sprig of leaves. This year, for the Pine Grove silent auction, each class has brought new life to a few of our old classroom chairs. This was a great lesson for the children in taking something old and turning it into something new and beautiful.

The children took turns working on the collaborative chair throughout morning work time. Many great discoveries were made such as mixing paint to make various shades of green and using sponges to make interesting textures. “This is fun! Can I do another one?” one child excitedly asked. Once the leaves and plants were dry, we added another layer of bright colored birds. The children participate in many different painting activities in Preschool but this was a special and unique experience.

“Imagination does not become great until human beings, given the courage and the strength, use it to create.”
