Spring is here on the Seedlings newly renovated playground and we are feeling so excited to be back outside on a regular basis. We have been exploring all the new equipment and discovering ways to work with each other. All of the various areas have provided a context for dramatic play. The house is a space where friends can pretend to share food and go to sleep. In the boat we pretend to go fishing, travel to islands and catch lobsters.
Our friends have also been taking care of nature. At first circle we asked the children to help us with feeding some hungry creatures outside and they were immediately excited to help out. We have been watching squirrels from the observation window in the A frame and last week we refilled the bird feeders in the courtyard. All of the friends got a scoop and helped to carefully fill the bird feeders.
Over the course of the year the children have been gaining an understanding of weather and the changes of seasons. We have an overhanging roof that provides us with a way to go outside in the rain. Last week we made rain pictures with paper plates and food coloring and watched as the raindrops changed and mixed colors together. We are enjoying our time outside these days and the newness of Spring is in the air.
