Preschool-“The Lifecycle of a Monarch”

“One, two, three, four, five… there are FIVE chrysalises!” reported a very enthusiastic child. Our class was generously given several Monarch caterpillars to observe during our plant and animal studies in Science. The children eagerly watched our insect friends throughout the days, patiently waiting for the magic to happen.

It was a wonderful celebration the day our first butterfly emerged from her chrysalis. “What happened to the crystal?!” one child asked curiously referring to the chrysalis as a teacher carefully held the delicate pupa covering for the children to admire. Within a day, another beautiful butterfly emerged. “I have dreams of butterflies,” shared a child as she awoke from her nap. Our delicate winged friends were released in the Children’s Garden to gather nectar.
