Seedlings: The Pink Cubes and Broad Stairs

The Pink Cubes and Broad Stairs are two materials from the Sensorial Area that can be used for matching, sequencing and grading. In this image we see two children using the work for building.

Located on the sensorial shelf, there is a new set of extension cards. The children have been using these cards as a new way to challenge themselves. Looking at a photo, a child works to match the design of pink and brown blocks. This exercise provides practice in problem solving, sequencing and balance. As the children work with this material their hands feel the difference in weight, size, and width. The cubes can be matched to the broad stairs by width and sequenced from largest to smallest. Practice with this material helps to build a foundation for math and language.
