Preschool: Green Eggs and Ham

This month, in the Preschool classroom, we have been celebrating the birthday of beloved children’s book author and illustrator Dr. Seuss. We participated, along with students across the country, in Read Across America by inviting the children to bring in a favorite book. They gathered in small groups throughout the morning to read their favorite books with each other and their teachers.

The children have been enjoying many of Seuss’s classics such as The Cat in the Hat and Green Eggs and Ham. They have participated in rhyming and coloring activities, bingo and matching games as well as an afternoon enrichment cooking project. In the spirit of Green Eggs and Ham, we discussed how the character in the story said he did not like green eggs and ham until he tried them and lo and behold, once he tried them he happily declared, "I do so like green eggs and ham. Thank you. Thank you, Sam-I-am." The children bravely tasted the unusual treat followed by an opportunity to add “yes” or “no” to our “Do you like green eggs and ham?” chart.
