Jr/Sr Kindergarten: Reading to the Seedlings Class
Recently, some of the senior kindergartners have taken a moment in their busy morning to walk downstairs to read to our youngest classroom, the Seedlings. This is one way we are able to connect our oldest and youngest students here at Pine Grove. In a Montessori school, a multi-age classroom offers many benefits. Older children act as a model for younger children who are so willing to follow the big kids. Teaching fellow classmates also allows the older student to show master

Kindergarten: Making the Maze with the Red Rods- A Montessori extension work

Kindergarten: Class Surveys
Recently, survey taking has captured the interest of many children in the classroom. A great learning experience for both the survey taker and the child who is asked questions for the survey. One survey topic was “how many people are in your family?”. It was interesting to observe children stopping to think and count out loud all the members of their family. Very few knew the number right off the top of their head! The survey taker had to practice grace and courtesy while pol

Jr/Sr Kindergarten: Saying Goodbye to Our Classroom Pet
Our classroom pet, Dory, passed away this past week. She was a sweet, little fish that the children loved feeding, observing, and making pictures for to decorate the area around her bowl (so she wouldn’t feel bored, according to the kids). Many kids shared that they felt sad that Dory died; others expressed confusion and curiosity as to why it hap

Kindergarten: Celebrating Earth Day
Recently, the kindergarten class celebrated Earth Day. In preparation for the event we have talked about having peace with nature and ways that we can take care of our earth.
