Pre-Primary: The Kindness Jar...
Kindness has been a focus at circle time over the last month. We have read books about how to be kind, practiced how to speak kindly to one another and discussed what types of actions are kind. To celebrate some of the kind things the children have been doing, we created a kindness jar. We record on pieces of paper some of the kind words and actions we have seen the children demonstrate. At the end of the week, we read the slips of paper that are in the jar which encourages the children to celebrate one another’s kindness.
The slips have celebrated children complimenting one another or helping to open lunch or snack. They recognize children picking up one another’s things that may have fallen on the floor or helping their teachers take care of the classroom. Some friends have checked on other friends that are sad or have invited friends whom are on their own to join in their play. Focusing on the good things that are happening helps make the children more aware of their kind deeds and they are sharing with their teachers some of the kind things their peers are doing.
“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.”
