Preschool: Foods of Italy
In the Preschool classroom, we are currently studying the beautiful country of Italy. We have been discussing and exploring many of the delicious and familiar Italian foods that we often eat here in the United States. One morning, Caelainn brought in her pasta maker and the children each had a turn taking a piece of dough and putting it through the machine to make fresh spaghetti. Once the pasta was finished, we cooked it and each child had a turn to try it. Many of the children thought it was delicious!
On another day, we made pizza. The children took turns rolling out the dough, spreading the tomato sauce and sprinkling with Parmesan cheese. Once the pizza was complete, we baked it and enjoyed it as a special snack.
As it turns out, the Preschool children are excellent little chefs. Exploring these tasty foods has been a fun way to connect the children to learning about another country.
“The environment must be rich in motives which lead interest to activity and invite the child to conduct his own experiences.”
