Pre-Primary: Collaging and Creating….
We have many artists in the Pre-Primary classroom this year, twenty-two artists to be precise. Each child creates images, designs, sculptures and structures in his/her own way, putting his/her hands on the many materials in both the Art Appreciation area and the Art Studio area.
Dahlov Ipcar was introduced recently at circle as not only an artist, but also as a children’s book illustrator and as a Mainer. Currently, one of the works in the Art Appreciation area is collage with small squares of wallpaper. Needless to say, our artists have gone above and beyond with their creations. Each child gets their square piece of paper, then picks which squares they would like in their collage. They glue each square on, one at a time, going from left to right and top to bottom. Some children organize the squares before they begin to glue. This is a thought provoking, labor intensive work that yields pride and satisfaction when their square of paper is filled and their work of art is complete!
