Kindergarten: Celebrating Earth Day

Recently, the kindergarten class celebrated Earth Day. In preparation for the event we have talked about having peace with nature and ways that we can take care of our earth. The children had several activities to choose from during work time: making earth colored bird feeders, earth shaped ornaments, and nature journals. All the materials we used were recycled materials, most found around our school! The children had a fun and productive work time doing each station’s activity and we ended the morning with our peace pole ceremony. All three classrooms gathered together, sang songs about peace and nature, and shared ways we can take care of the earth.

“Let the children be free; encourage them; let them run outside when it is raining; and when the grass of the meadows is wet with dew, let them run on it and trample it with their bare feet; let them rest peacefully when a tree invites them to sleep beneath its shade; let them shout and laugh when the sun wakes them in the morning.”
